Screening, discussion look at ‘The Age of Nature’
In partnership with the Eel River Recovery Project, KEET-TV will present an online screening and discussion of the threepart PBS documentary series “The Age of Nature” Wednesday at 6 p.m. This screening will feature a short piece from Episode No. 2 titled “Understanding.”
This film looks at how nature is helping people find surprising ways to repair the environment. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with local fire and natural resource experts.
Yana Valachovic, county director/forest adviser for the University of California Cooperative Extension in Humboldt and Del Norte counties, will discuss the role of fire on the North Coast. Her guests will include Lenya QuinnDavidson, a fire adviser with the University of California Cooperative Extension, and Jeff Stackhouse, a livestock and natural resources adviser. Their work includes community-based burning and the development of prescribed burn associations across California, increasing private landowners’ capacity to manage vegetation on their lands economically.
The panel will look at the parallels between “The Age of Nature” and how people might apply the concepts locally. They’ll discuss what lessons people have learned from the 2020 fire season and how to build resilience in ecosystems. They will also explore this year’s fire impacts to see if there needs to be a call for action and look at ways to build collaboration around landscape resilience.
“The Age of Nature,” a three-part series that premiered on Oct. 14, continues through Oct. 28 on PBS. Go to KEET.org or OVEE.itvs.org to sign up for the screening and discussion.
