Forecast calls for a mostly dry week
A warm and mostly dry week is forecast for Humboldt County, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Sunday, calling it “un-November-ish.”
“We are expecting a chance of showers (Sunday night) into Monday morning and drier conditions going into Tuesday, and they (will) persist through Thursday if not beyond,” said NWS meteorologist Jonathan Garner.
The rain is expected to be very minimal.
“Forecast amounts remain on track … which points toward a tenth to a quarter-inch in Del Norte, less than that in Humboldt, and perhaps only trace amounts in southern Humboldt,” a post on the National Weather Service website states.
Rain is unlikely after Monday. And temperatures are expected to be moderate with daytime highs in the 50s and overnight lows on the coast of high 30s or low 40s. Inland areas, especially in valleys, could see nighttime temperatures dip closer to freezing and daytime highs hit the mid- 60s.
In the marine forecast, a small craft advisory will be in effect from noon Monday through noon Tuesday.
“Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions,” the National Weather Service warns.
In addition, on Wednesday, those visiting local beaches are warned to be wary of the surf.
“Wednesday afternoon there is an alert for sneaker ways,” Garner said.
Beach-goers are warned to not turn their backs on the ocean because the larger waves can come up unexpectedly.
“As the waves build on Thursday, the sneaker wave threat will diminish,” a beach hazards advisory posted on the NWS website on Monday states. “However, some set behavior will remain, with occasionally larger breaking waves and greater wave run-up.”
