30 cases of COVID-19 at Grenada
Thirty people have tested positive for COVID-19 at a Eureka skilled nursing facility, according to a news release from the county Public Health Department.
One staff person and 29 residents were found to have tested positive at Granada Rehabilitation & Wellness Center in Eureka during routine testing of staff, which is required to take place weekly by the state, according to the release. Admin
istrators at the facility are working closely with Public Health to contain the outbreak and monitor the health of residents, it stated.
“Experts in infection control from Public Health and (the California Department of Public Health) are assisting the facility in containing the outbreak, including on- site support,” the release states. “Public Health will provide ongoing testing of all staff and residents and additional expertise as needed.”
Staff at the facility did not respond to a request for comment Thursday.
Suzi Fregeau, program manager for the Area 1 Agency on Aging’s LongTerm Care Ombudsman Program, said she was confident the outbreak was being contained.
“As far as the care of the residents and the dedication of at least the management team, I think they’re
doing the best they can under the circumstances,” Fregeau said.
Humboldt County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Josh Ennis said in a statement that the outbreak highlights the “level of disease
circulating right now” in the community. On Thursday, the county announced its largest single day record for positive COVID-19 cases at 44.
“It’s time for all of us to step up and connect our
everyday actions to life real- life consequences,” Ennis said. “Mask, distance, wash hands and don’t gather.”
