‘Surprisingly nice’ week ahead
The week ahead appears to be rather pleasant, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Sunday.
“It looks like a surprisingly nice week of weather for December,” said NWS Eureka office meteorologist Tyler Jewel on Sunday afternoon.
Jewel said the next few days should be “a little bit warmer” than what Humboldt County residents have seen recently.
The week ahead for the coast should see temperatures in the high 50s or low 60s with overnight lows in the low 40s or high 30s. Inland temperatures should be a bit higher with daytime highs in the 60s in Willow Creek, but lows will be close to freezing. To the south, Garberville will see temperatures similar to eastern areas such as Willow Creek, with daytime temperatures in the 60s and overnight lows slightly above freezing.
There is a high surf advisory in effect for much of the Humboldt County coast starting Monday.
“Large breaking waves along the coast will lead to increased wave run-up on beaches with waves topping and washing over large rocks and jetties,” the advisory stated. “These large waves can be erratic and unpredictable.”
The NWS predicted north and northwest facing beaches would see breakers as high as 22 to 28 feet between Monday morning and Tuesday morning.
The high surf advisory is in effect through 4 p.m. Tuesday.
While some parts of California could be subjected to a Pacific Gas and Electirc Co. outage due to high winds, that would not include Humboldt County. Jewel said the winds were mainly in the Sacramento area and “further south.” He noted that the closest effects could be in the southern portion of Lake County.
He added that any chance of rain would occur later in the week or in the next weekend.
