Fundraising calendar looks at local history

- The Times-Standard

Six Rivers Charter High School’s “Historical Calendar” is a service-learning project that takes learning beyond the classroom and into the community. For the fourth year, Six Rivers has created a “Historical Calendar” that showcases old photos of local landmarks side by side with current images from the same location along with historical facts about the site.

Student directors Emma Scott and Isaac Wilson took on the challenge of researching historical sites, graphic design and securing the support of local businesses to produce a calendar that will both educate and raise funds for school activities. Calendars will be distributed to local elementary school classrooms and are being sold by students and in local businesses for $5.

Scott said, “This project was a fun and unique experience and I am glad to have been a part of this project from start to finish. While this calendar became a difficult task at times, I am happy to see the final product.”

Six Rivers’ “Historical Calendars” are available at A & L Feed, Coast Central Credit Union branches, Pierson’s, Sunnybrae ACE Hardware, Wildberries and the Grind Cafe. In addition, calendars can be obtained at the Six Rivers School site. Proceeds from this project fund student activities such as the senior class trip and field trips to college campuses.
