This week will start off drier and warmer than it has been lately, a nice reprieve from the cold, wet and windy weather Humboldt County has seen in recent weeks.

“At the coast, we could see some low 60s, maybe a 70 in Garberville on Monday,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Matthew Kidwell on

Sunday afternoon. “Then, temperatures are going to start to cool off a little bit as we get later in the week.”

Humboldt County will escape most of the windy conditions that other areas across central and Northern California will see.

High wind advisories are in effect for more than 30 million people from north-central California down to Southern California, CNN reported Sunday.

“The highest winds (will be in) Kneeland; the windiest time is going to be Monday night into Tuesday morning,” Kidwell said. “There could be some gusts to 35 miles per hour over the ridges Tuesday morning.”

“And it will be breezy along the coast, but nothing too notable,” he added.

Temperatures across Humboldt County will start off warmer and taper down over the week. Eureka will see highs in the 60s at the start of the week, moving down into the 50s starting Wednesday. Overnight lows along the coast are expected to be in the high 30s and low 40s.

Southern Humboldt will see slightly higher temperatures early this week, potentially hitting the 70s with highs in the 60s later in the week. Overnight lows around Garberville could be in the high 30s most of the week.

In eastern Humboldt County, highs and lows will be similar to the southern portion of the county.

“Most of the week is looking dry until we get to Friday,” said Kidwell. “Then there is a chance for rain on Friday. Right now, it’s a fairly low chance of rain.”

He said there is a chance of snow above 3,000 feet, but it looks to be pretty unlikely.

The marine forecast this week looks to be choppy, said Kidwell, noting there with be bigger swells early in the week.
