Refill options for Cloney’s customers
With the closing of all Cloney’s Pharmacy retail locations, patients requiring prescription medications have options to refill these.
Cloney’s Red Cross Pharmacy on Eureka’s Fifth Street will close Feb. 23, Cloney’s McKinleyville Pharmacy will close on Feb. 24 and Cloney’s Prescription Pharmacy on Eureka’s Harrison Avenue
will close on March 1.
Cloney’s will be transferring all customer prescription and insurance information to local CVS stores. CVS will be taking in several Cloney’s staff members as well.
Cloney’s Long Term Care Pharmacy, which works with skilled nursing facilities and county organizations, will continue to operate.
However, customers have other options if they choose to not get their medication from CVS stores.
Lima’s Professional Pharmacy in Eureka has been taking in prescription orders from Cloney’s since news of the closings was made public.
As shared by controller Chrissie Keeney, the independently owned and operated pharmacy has received over 300 orders from former Cloney’s customers after announcing its closing.
Keeney shared transferring orders is simple. A patient can just fill out a transfer form, listing the prescription numbers and medication names, along with a patient information such as name, phone number, address and existing allergies.
A transfer can be processed in minutes, but due to the influx of prescriptions, their fax machines can slow down the process at times.
“Cloney’s has been walking down some prescription orders because our fax machines have gotten bogged down with orders,” Keeney said. She added same-day refill transfers are given urgent priority.
In addition to prescription services, Lima’s Pharmacy also offers compounding services and free delivery from its Eureka headquarters from McKinleyville through as Garberville.
In Arcata, Barnes Arcata Family Drug has also seen an increase in prescription orders. Similar to Lima’s Pharmacy, patients interested in transferring their orders need to provide basic personal information and the pharmacy can request the prescription be sent to the store from Cloney’s or any other pharmacies.
Barnes offers free delivery in Arcata city limits and provides mail service delivery of non-controlled medication for an additional fee. It’s retail location also stocks a variety of home items and gifts.
Ferndale’s Green’s Pharmacy can process transfers with some personal information and insurance billing information. This pharmacy offers free local delivery. Fortuna’s Rings Pharmacy is also processing transfers with this information.
Scotia’s Palco Pharmacy will be the Garberville Clinic’s main prescription delivery partner in light of Cloney’s closing. Clinic patients are being advised to issue a transfer at least 10 days before a refill is needed.
To issue a transfer to Palco, patients need to provide their personal information, their prescription file number and medications. These can be provided in
person or over the phone.
The Southern Humboldt Community Health District, the clinic’s operator, will be opening a retail pharmacy in Garberville at the Sprowel Creek School building this year, with an expected mid-2021 opening.
National chains doing business in Humboldt County also offer easy transfers of patients into their system.
Rite Aid offers an online transfer form with no online user account required. A patient can also file their transfer in person or over the phone after providing personal and insurance information.
Rite Aid operates three Humboldt County locations, in Eureka, Fortuna and McKinleyville.
Walgreens can request a transfer with a patient’s name and birth date information over the phone or in person. Walgreens also offers an online prescription transfer service. Guest user transfers are available for patients who do not wish to register an account, but an account option is available as well.
Walgreens has two Eureka locations, at 2525 Harris Street and at 1424 Broadway, and a Fortuna Location, at 1065 South Fortuna Boulevard.
Costco, Walmart and Safeway locations also offer pharmacy services at their Eureka locations.
Cloney’s customers choosing to automatically transfer over to CVS can fill
their medications at their nearest location.
If reaching a pharmacy in person, online or via phone is not possible for any reason, a doctor’s office can change a prescription’s pharmacy destination on a patient file upon request.
Ahead of its retail operations coming to an end, Cloney’s Pharmacies announced via Facebook it is holding a closing sale with 75 percent discount on all products.
