History talk looks at some noteworthy folks who've passed through the county
The Humboldt County Historical Society will offer its continuing lecture series on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. via Zoom.
The lecture, “Just Passing Through — (In)Famous folks who have traveled through Humboldt County,” will be presented by Katie Buesch of the Clarke Historical Museum and will be hosted by the Humboldt County Library. The deadline to sign up for access to the lecture is 5 p.m. on Friday.
Humboldt County has had its fair share of famous people who have come here and settled, with some of their notoriety being that they came to and maybe became famous while living here — think John Dolbeer and the steam donkey which revolutionized logging.
This presentation tells the stories of people who traveled through Humboldt County on their way to becoming famous and, in some cases, infamous. Hear the tales of unicyclists, hot air balloonists and con men in this presentation.
Buesch arrived in Humboldt County from San Diego, and settled here to earn her anthropology and religious studies degrees from Humboldt State University. She has worked at the Clarke Historical Museum since 2017, first as the registrar-curator for the Main Hall, then the executive director-curator. She is the lead coordinator for the yearly Humboldt History Symposium hosted by the Clarke Museum and the Humboldt County Historical Society, which was online in 2020. Her favorite local history icon is Laura Perrott Mahan.
