- Staff Reports

Humboldt State’s track and field teams will return to the lanes for the first time in 18 months this weekend, when the men’s and women’s teams compete in their first scheduled meet at Southern Oregon University Meet 1 Thursday and Friday.

Despite the setbacks brought on by the pandemic, men’s and women’s head coach Sarah Ingram sees a return to action as physically and mentally rewarding.

“After a long time off from competition, and with intermittent training throughout the year, our athletes are hungry to hit the road and get back to doing what they love,” Ingram said to the Humboldt State Athletics page. “Nine days on the road together, packed with six days of competition. It’s going to be a fun experience to build camaraderie within our different training pods, and I am sure will provide our team with memories for a lifetime.”

The SOU Meet 1 will see the Lumberjacks test their skill against Bushnell University, Oregon Tech, Umpqua Community College and hosts Southern Oregon. HSU’s track and field season will continue to compete on the road, with their seven meets taking place at Oregon schools.
