It’s not going to be a very active week weather-wise in Humboldt County, a National Weather Service Eureka meteorologist said Sunday.

“Not much rainfall at all,” meteorologist Ryan Aylward said, noting there might be some minimal amounts Monday.

It’s been a dry year, so far, Aylward said, noting Humboldt County is behind in the “water year,” which begins Oct. 1. Normal rainfall for this time of year is 31.68 inches of rain, and as of Sunday, there were just over 22 inches of rain observed at the Woodley Island National Weather Office.

With expected rainfall in the tenths or hundreds of an inch this week, that total is not likely to grow much.

“Temperature-wise, nothing is too cold,” Aylward said of the week. “Some more chance of frost Tuesday morning.”

He said overnight lows would be in the upper 30s and low 40s and daytime highs would be in the 50s in most places of the county.

“Willow Creek and Southern Humboldt could be up in the 60s midweek,” he added.

There is a good amount of wind in the marine forecast, with potential for gale warnings midweek.

The winds are really going to crank up Tuesday,” he said. “… Winds will decrease as we go into Wednesday and Thursday, but gusty still over the outer waters.”

He said the biggest deal of the week for the weather service is the tsunami warning system test that is slated for Wednesday between 11 a.m. and noon. He said the sirens installed in various spots in the county would all be tested.

Residents also might spot the Civil Air Patrol flying along the coastline.

“Civil Air Patrol will be flying and broadcasting with their speakers off the side of the plane,” Aylward said. “They will be saying, ‘This is just a test.’ “
