For the second year in a row, the Fortuna Garden Club is unable to hold its annual Daffodil Show at the River Lodge and Conference Center but will be holding its potted daffodil sale on Saturday.

“Fortuna Garden Club’s 44th annual Daffodil Show was to be held March 27 and 28,” Garden Club President Karen Hall said, “but because of COVID-19, it cannot.”

The annual Daffodil Show is an American Garden Club sanctioned event, one of the largest in California, and the largest show held between San Francisco and Portland, Oregon.

The Club’s potted daffodil sale will be held in the parking lot at the River Lodge from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. 30 varieties of daffodils will be available in two-gallon pots for $10 each. There will be 325 potted daffodils sold. Hall said the club adds a few new varieties to the potted daffodil sale each year.

“The varieties are generally mid-season bloom types of different divisions because we select those that bloom around the time of our show in late March,” Hall said.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Fortuna Garden Club and during the sale, masks and social distancing are required.

“We hope to see everyone at the daffodil sale this year,” Hall said, “and sincerely hope we will be able to present our muchloved Daffodil Show once again in 2022.”

Hall said the annual Daffodil Show has grown over the years to include exhibitors from across the country, as well as local businesses, organizations, schools, and other floral societies’ participation. Each year, more than 800 daffodils and 50 floral designs are displayed and judged.

“The public enjoys this wonderful, two-day flower show free of charge,” Hall said. “It is our (Fortuna Garden Club’s) gift to the community.”
