Humboldt County is going to have another dry week, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Sunday afternoon.

Meteorologist Jonathan Garner said no precipitation is expected and not much in the way of winds either.

For most of the week, the Humboldt Bay area will see lows in the 40s and daytime highs in the low 60s. In the southern portion of the county, the highs will reach into the low 70s. Eastern Humboldt County will see temperatures in the mid-70s and overnight lows near 40.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, most of the county is “abnormally dry,” but the eastern portion of the county is in “moderate drought.”

March saw limited rain, with less than 4 inches of rain recorded in Eureka which is 74% of normal, according to the National Weather Service.

“The month (of March) started out with rainfall close to normal in most areas, however, after the 20th of the month rainfall mainly ended,” the National Weather Service Eureka office tweeted Sunday. “This left the month with 50 to 75 percent of normal, lowest in the south and east.”

While the drought conditions persist in Humboldt County, it has not had an impact on local reservoirs. The Ruth Lake reservoir is at 101% of capacity as of March 24, the website for the Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District stated. Ruth Lake provides water for around 88,000 customers in Humboldt County.

Marine forecast

On Sunday, there was a gale warning in effect for high winds.

“Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility,” the warning stated.

Garner said the winds would die down Monday morning and there were no high winds for the rest of the week in the marine forecast.
