LOGGERS GET WIN OVER CRUSADERS
Eureka extends winning streak to 4
Eureka High defeated St. Bernard’s this Saturday 35-14 in their Week 4 clash at Crusader Field, extending the Logger’s record to 4-0.
Eureka found the end zone first, when Hayden Bode scored less than two minutes into the game with a 20-yard run to cap off a 79-yard drive.
St. Bernard’s would freeze the Logger’s offensive during the remainder of the first quarter and took the game’s lead when sixfoot-seven-inch-tall sophomore Owen Shanahan caught a 28-yard package from senior quarterback Bode Joyner. Brayden Luna made good on the one-point conversion for a partial 7-6 score.
But Eureka’s offensive fired on all cylinders during the second quarter to put the game out of reach for their hosts.
Keeb Her took back the game’s advantage with a 11-yard dash and tacked on an extra two points via conversion in the following play.
Eureka’s Bode brothers set up the next scoring play, with younger brother Rogan capturing a fumble on the Crusader’s 15 and older brother Hayden running in the pigskin to further the lead on the following play.
Hayden Bode would find Magnum West in the end zone for another touchdown play, this time the reception coming from 11 yards out. Brandon Racines later
powered through St. Bernard’s defensive line for his touchdown of the day.
St. Bernard’s junior linebacker Jacob Smallwood scored his team’s second touchdown of the game, this after retrieving a fumble and running down 75 yards.
Eureka High’s victory sets up a huge Week 5 matchup for the Loggers, who will be visiting the also-undefeated Fortuna High Huskies on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
St. Bernard’s will be closing out its Spring 2021 calendar by hosting Del Norte high school on Saturday at 1 p.m.
