21 high school seniors recognized for academic excellence
Earlier this week, 21 high school seniors from Humboldt County schools were honored as members of the county’s Academic Achievement Team during a virtual ceremony.
“The Academic Achievement Team and Stellar Students announcement is a joyful opportunity to honor outstanding high school seniors from across the county that have used their academic talents to make a positive and significant impact in their schools and communities,” Karen Brooks, the program coordinator for Academic Achievement Awards at the Humboldt County Office of Education, said in a prepared statement. “They all have shown vast leadership in so many arenas and it’s an honor to recognize these amazing scholars!”
The ceremony was held online for the second consecutive year as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
Team members were selected by a panel of volunteer judges based on their academic performance, involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership abilities, communication skills and commitment to their community.
Of the 21 students on the team, two were named as Stellar Students for 2021. Klayre Barres of Eureka High School and Alyssa Pedicino of Arcata High School were the top honorees. The two were selected “in recognition of their exceptional accomplishments and potential to make significant impacts in the future,” a release from HCOE stated. The stellar students were given scholarships totaling $7,000.
Three students received the Inspiration Award: Alejandra Aguilar Arce of Fortuna High School; Dora D’Accardo Hineman of Eureka High School and Emma Boykin of Hoopa High School.
“Congratulations to each one of our academic achievers,” said Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Chris Hartley in a prepared statement. “These students represent our collective pride in our schools and are examples of dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence.
