HSU rowers set to row at GNAC championship
The Humboldt State women’s rowing team will be competing in the upcoming Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships in Washington’s Vancouver Lake in the team’s first and only race of the Spring 2021 season.
The team will be sending their varsity-level fourplus squad to compete at the meet on May 15. The deciding day of competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and conclude with its award ceremony at 12:30 p.m. The outgoing team is made up of coxswain Taylor Carrington, with Kealey Scott in -4, Malia Seeley in -3, Hannah Pereira in -2 and Cassidy Hollenbeck in -1. Marjorie Johnson and Cassidy Skinner will be on deck as the team’s spares.
Freshmen rowers Carrington, Hollenbeck, Pereira and Scott will be making their HSU debut at the meet.
The 2021 women’s rowing team has trained for the competition since January under incoming coach Matt Weise. The team practices at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.
“I am excited to see how my team performs in race conditions,” Weise said to HSU’s athletics site. “They are ready for the added energy that a race brings and I expect them to use this added energy to add another level of speed. They have made huge strides technically and physically this Spring and I can’t wait to see them push for their best this weekend.”
Central Oklahoma University, Seattle Pacific University and Western Washington University will also be competing at the GNAC conference championships.
