Just My Type owner launches new brand of prints, cards

-

Artist and printmaker Lynn M. Jones, who owns Just My Type in Old Town, is expanding her business by launching a new brand for her line of cards and original prints called Lynnoleum.

“I’m not leaving Just My Type Letterpress behind,” Jones said in a prepared statement. “The store will remain open and continue to be a place where the community can come shop for cards, stickers, and fun things from local makers. But Lynn-oleum represents where I’m headed with the wholesale line. Everything I make has a linoleum block print on it, and well, having the name ‘Lynn’ is more convenient than I could have possibly asked for.”

The shift to two businesses is a milestone for Jones, who has been printing her artwork on vintage printing presses for more than 20 years. After working out of garages and warehouses, Jones opened her first retail location in 2016 and called it Just My Type Letterpress Paperie. Through the pandemic, her store continued to grow and moved to a larger retail space in 2020.

Around the same time as the move, Jones launched her wholesale line, getting her linocut print cards, stationery, and stickers into boutique shops, bookstores, and markets in more than 100 stores across the country.

Jones’ cards won two awards from the Greeting Card Association, called the Louies, or “the Oscars of the greeting card world,” as she calls it and six more were finalists in 2021 and 2022.

Each Lynn-oleum print reflects Jones’ down-toearth nature and goal to make the world a little kinder. Using a linoleum block, she hand carves images inspired by the beauty, humor, and joy found in everyday moments. With a vintage press, she then inks and presses the linoleum block onto recycled paper in small batches. The result is a simple yet striking piece of art that celebrates the timeless craft of something handmade.

Jones said distinguishing her stationery shop from her wholesale line gives her more time and space to grow as an artist and to focus more intently on her passion for linoleum block printing. Sheis hopeful to share her art and cards that make the world a little kinder far beyond the Redwood Curtain.
