For Life Plan

A “Meet & Greet” for Life Plan Humboldt is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Phatsy Kline’s Parlor Lounge, 129 Second St., Eureka.

Life Plan Humboldt is a local, grassroots effort to create the first residentle­d, not-for-profit life plan community for active older adults on the North Coast.

Life Plan Humboldt will provide older adults with secure and accessible homes with support as they age, will open up housing stock for younger families, provide local jobs at all levels, and keep valued and loved people in the community.

Play bingo

Bingo games will be played Friday at the Freshwater Grange 48 Grange Road.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and games begin at 6:30. There’s a $5 buy-in and extra cards are $3. The $20 “dinner special” includes the buy-in, dinner, a beverage and dessert.

Beef stew

A hearty beef stew dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Dow’s Prairie Grange No. 505, 3995 Dow’s Prairie Road, McKinleyvi­lle.

Marsh tour

Friends of the Arcata Marsh is sponsoring a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.

Meet leader Paul Johnson at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpreti­ve Center on South G Street for a 90-minute, rain-orshine walk focusing on marsh ecology. Masks are strongly recommende­d inside the building. Call 707826-2359.

Tour the marsh

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Rob Fowler at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata for easy-to-walk trails and an opportunit­y to view a diverse range of overwinter­ing shorebirds and soon-to-be nesting resident songbirds.

Birding tour

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour along the Eureka Waterfront Trail from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday with leader Ralph Bucher.

This relatively urban trail offers the potential to observe species abundance and diversity compared to many more remote locations. Keep an eye and ear out for the peregrine falcons that frequent the Samoa Bridge. Folks may also see cormorants, loons, grebes and even otters diving for their meals in the bay alongside the trail.

This walk is on a flat, paved trail that is wheelchair accessible. Email Ralph to sign up for this field trip at thebook@reninet.com.

Swedish pancakes

A Swedish pancake breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road. The cost is $10.

Corned beef

A corned beef and cabbage dinner will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Humboldt Grange No. 501, 5845 Humboldt Hill Road, Eureka.

A1AA meeting

The Area 1 Agency on Aging will hold its “Area Plan Update 2023-24” public hearing from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday. Area 1 Agency on Aging invites older adults, their service providers and supporters living in Humboldt or Del Norte counties to comment on the proposed Area Plan activities funded by the Older Americans Act.
