Humboldt Sponsors, a local nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to raising funds solely to benefit Humboldt County youth, will announce its 2023 grant cycle recipients at its annual grants reception, to be held Thursday at the Morris Graves Museum of Art, 636 F St. in Eureka, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Each year in April, Humboldt Sponsors awards grants to local nonprofit, youth-related programs and organizations through an annual application and selection process. This year, the organization distributed a total of $102,065 among 54 individual grants, bringing the overall total of grant funding awarded locally since 1973 to $2,835,000.

lease join us in congratulating these very deserving local nonprofits,” said Humboldt Sponsors President Tammy Curtis. “Our annual grants reception is an opportunity to hear from our awardees about the successes of their programs and how they will use, or have used, the financial support we provided. This is what we work for all year, and it demonstrates all the ‘good things’ Humboldt Sponsors does for local kids.”

The individual grants support many diverse youth activities and programs in Humboldt County, such as scholarships for educational, recreational and cultural enrichment activities and youth leadership projects. In addition, Humboldt Sponsors’ grants assist youth-oriented programs that provide basic needs.

“We are able to raise most of the funds needed to support our many grant requests with the proceeds from our various fundraising events throughout the year,” said Kim Cobine, grants chairperson, “such as our popular annual rummage sale, including our last and final one in October 2022, and our spring and summer events.” Humboldt Sponsors is an all-volunteer organization with nearly 400 dedicated members. The organization is currently the largest provider of non-governmental funds for youth in Humboldt County.
