Volunteers sought to assist older adults
The Area 1 Agency on Aging, in partnership with Senior Planet, seeks passionate volunteers to equip older adults in Del Norte and Humboldt counties with essential technological skills, aiming to transform the aging process through tech education.
To qualify for teaching Senior Planet's comprehensive licensed curriculum, volunteers must attend a “Train the Trainer” course starting the week of May 13 for a five-week duration. This virtual course will immerse participants in Senior Planet's philosophy, resources, research and tools, equipping them to effectively teach technology classes to seniors. Sessions are available on Wednesday at 10 a.m. or Thursday at noon.
Registering for the Train the Trainer series is simple, with ongoing support provided by Senior Planet experts and certified instructors from Area 1 Agency on Aging throughout the course.
While extensive tech expertise is not required, volunteers should be comfortable with basic device use and online navigation. Sample tasks include using shared folders, downloading files, setting up online accounts, participating in virtual Zoom meetings, connecting devices and conducting web searches.
The Area 1 Agency on Aging is committed to expanding its range of free workshops, courses and training locations, which is contingent upon the availability of volunteer teachers.
