Civil grand jury seeks members for 2024-25

The Humboldt County Civil Grand Jury, part of the judicial branch of government, is seeking jurors for the 2024-25 term.

Every year 19 citizens serve their community by investigating all aspects of local government and reporting their findings, and we are seeking jurors for the 2024-2025 term.

The Civil Grand Jury may examine all aspects of city and county governments and special districts to ensure that the best interests of Humboldt County residents are being served. Each year final reports are released, explaining the issues and giving recommendations about how local government can improve our services. Elected officials are required to respond to these recommendations in a public forum.

The requirements to qualify are that you must be a U.S. citizen and have lived in Humboldt County for at least one year. The ideal juror shows curiosity about government and local issues, is good at collaborating with others, and enjoys doing research and interviewing local citizens and officials. Prospective grand jurors are chosen by lottery.

To serve, apply at https://humboldtgov.org/510/CivilGrand-Jury. Additional information provided by the Civil Grand Jurors' Association of California can be found at https://cgja.org/.
