Nico Hoerner, Cubs run past D-backs in 11

Nico Hoerner scored the tying run with a mad dash from second base on a wild pitch in the ninth and delivered the tiebreakin­g single in the 11th as the Chicago Cubs notched a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbac­ks on Monday at Phoenix. Michael Busch homered in his fifth consecutiv­e game to tie the Cubs’ franchise record, joining Hack Wilson (1928), Ryne Sandberg (1989), Sammy Sosa (1998) and Christophe­r Morel (2023). Hoerner and Garrett Cooper had two hits apiece as Chicago won its third consecutiv­e game. Jake Mccarthy had an RBI single in the second that represente­d Arizona’s lone hit through the first 7 1/3 innings. Corbin Carroll added a run-scoring single in the eighth for the Diamondbac­ks, who finished with three hits while losing for the second time in six games.

In his Texas debut, Michael Lorenzen pitched five scoreless innings to set the tone in a victory over host Detroit.

Orioles 7, Twins 4:

Cedric Mullins provided one of three Baltimore home runs with a two-run shot in the fifth inning, helping the Orioles beat visiting Minnesota.

Phillies 2, Rockies 1 (10 innings): Cristian Pache hit a walk-off RBI single to right field with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift host Philadelph­ia past Colorado.

Giants 4, Marlins 3:

Wilmer Flores produced a pinch-hit, go-ahead single with two outs in the seventh inning as visiting San Francisco rallied for a win at Miami.

A tworun home run by Mike Trout and a three-run double by Matt Thaiss highlighte­d a five-run eighth inning as Los Angeles rallied for a victory over Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Mets 6, Pirates 3:

Harrison Bader delivered a tiebreakin­g hit in the eighth inning for a second straight game, hitting a two-run double to highlight New York’s comeback from a three-run deficit en route to a win over visiting Pittsburgh.

Blue Jays 3, Yankees 1:

Chris Bassitt allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings and Toronto defeated visiting New York in the opener of a three-game set.

Padres 7, Brewers 3:

Rookie Jackson Merrill singled home two runs during a six-run fifth inning as visiting San Diego opened a three-game series against Milwaukee with a win.

Mariners 9, Reds 3:

Jorge Polanco and Mitch Haniger hit homers as Seattle set a season high in runs during a victory against visiting Cincinnati.

Sonny Gray fired six shutout innings against his former team as St. Louis earned a victory at Oakland.
