After Melania Trump’s speech on Monday night at the Republican convention, Donald Trump’s campaign denied any similarities between her remarks and Michelle Obama’s during the Democratic convention in 2008.

There is virtually zero possibility that the similarities in those paragraphs are a coincidence. None. She plagiarized the speech and Paul Manafort is not owning up to it. Douglas White

There are more important issues in the world than whether Melania Trump gave proper credit to her sources or not. Ranks up there with being “politically correct”; nice but diverts from what is really important. Her message was way more important and appreciated.

Trump’s management skills are on display here. Instead of firing Melania’s speechwriter or his campaign manager, Trump lies and tries to cover up the mishap by blaming it on someone else.

This is a glimpse into how he would run the country.

What I love most about this is realizing the people in that auditorium were unknowingly cheering and clapping for things Michelle Obama said.

I don’t care if she said, “Four score and seven years ago,” or “I have a dream.” I understood her love of her family and this country. Richard Keiswetter

While it is obvious that parts of this speech were patterned on Michelle Obama’s speech, who really cares? All this tells me is that nothing of any real interest occurred during Monday’s show. Jay Hill The speech on Monday night was good, but I think it was much better when Michelle Obama first gave it in 2008. Brian Geiger

We asked our followers their impression of Melania Trump’s GOP convention speech on Monday. I definitely have a new example of plagiarism to show my students.

@ elbowen I loved her. I thought she was warm and genuine. We have enough hate and ugly in this world. She was refreshing. @ JGTeam24FAN I liked the part where she payed homage to the Obamas with her nod to Michelle's shared values.

@ SGallopo I thought she looked like the beauty queen she is, perfect. Unfortunately, her words were not her own so I'm not impressed. @ ksells1Dupe Sad that her first opportunity to make an impression on the American public is marred by yet another Trump debacle. @ plish516
