First night wasn’t short of riveting moments

The 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland opened on Monday with the day’s theme “Make America Safe Again.”

The top takeaways: Melania Trump is a lot better looking than Hillary Clinton, America would be kept safer under a Trump- Pence administration than a Clinton one, the missing Republicans ( Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich) who pledged to support the GOP nominee reneged, and the # NeverTrump movement was stopped dead in its tracks. Fleetwood Davant

Sick of the venomous rhetoric of the first day of the Republican convention. I understand that bashing Clinton is one way to unify the party, but a message of unity would also work.

What about a positive message regarding the future? Seems like it’s a lot of finger- pointing and blaming going on, especially with Clinton. Instead the message should be, “We need to unify as a country and work to grow our people and our nation.” Eric JayKinda

Basically, the first night was a bag of lies for the uneducated voters who follow that tribe. All of it capped with Melania Trump, who read a plagiarized speech.

Meanwhile, no policy ideas to speak of. Mac Mittenz

The GOP convention was an unmitigated disaster out of the gate.

I hope independents are watching so they can see Trump is woefully unfit for the presidency. The alternative may be Clinton, a candidate many consider untrustworthy, but I’ll take that over bad policy every day of the week. There is also a Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, who is at least credible. John Petz
