Joe Arpaio hasn’t addressed the Republican National Convention, but the controversial sheriff did speak to Arizona delegates at their breakfast Wednesday.

Arpaio, who has spoken at every Arizona campaign appearance by Donald Trump, said he doesn’t know why he wasn’t asked to speak on the national stage. “I do know that that sometimes Donald Trump may not know everything that’s going on,” he said. “Let’s leave it at that.”

A federal judge ruled Arpaio in civil contempt of court, saying the Maricopa County sheriff violated an order intended to curb racial profiling.

Arpaio is one of the most popular figures on the floor of the convention. Delegates from across the country seek him out for photos and autographs.
