Four stents, and he’s good as new

- Bill Theobald

A week ago, longtime GOP activist David Jaques thought he probably wouldn’t make it to the Republican convention. In fact, he figured he wasn’t likely to make it through the day after he collapsed on the floor of his office in Roseburg, Ore., and his heart stopped.

His heart was shocked back into rhythm, and surgeons inserted four stents to provide support for the blood vessels feeding his heart, two of which were 80% blocked and the other two 90% obstructed.

Fast forward to Wednesday, and a vital- looking Jacques was eating breakfast along with his fellow delegates and alternates waiting to hear from Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback.

Brownback’s advice to the crowd: “Be cheery.” Jaques had no problem with that.
