GM PAYS $ 1M SEC FINE OVER IGNITION SWITCHES General Motors agreed to pay a $ 1 million fine to settle federal charges it failed to adequately assess the potential financial damages of a deadly defect. The Securities and Exchange Commission said it agreed to a settlement over the accusations, which stem from GM’s ignition- switch scandal. The flaw, which was ignored for more than a decade, killed at least 124 people and injured another 275 in small cars made by the old, pre- bankruptcy GM, such as the Chevrolet Cobalt and Saturn Ion.
