ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Mark Johnson studied the growing threat posed by diseases that jump from animals to humans during a nine- month O'Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism at Marquette University.
He was assisted by Marquette student researchers McKenna Oxenden, Ryan Patterson and Devi Shastri.
Marquette University and administrators of the program played no role in the reporting, editing or presentation of this project.
Additionally, the Pulitzer Center on Crisis reporting, which funds international reporting on underreported topics, is providing support for this ongoing series of stories.
