2 DEAD IN NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING IN GERMANY
A shooting in a German discotheque claimed two lives Sunday, including that of the gunman, and wounded four people, three of them seriously, police said.
A tweet by police in the town of Konstanz in Germany’s southwestern Baden- Wurttemberg state said one person was killed and three were seriously wounded in the early- morning shooting. A subsequent exchange of fire on the street with the gunman left a policeman with non- life- threatening wounds and the gunman in critical condition.
The gunman died later in the hospital.
The dpa news agency cited an unnamed police official as saying investigators have turned up no evidence of terrorism as a motive and believe the suspect was acting alone.
Police identified him as an Iraqi citizen, 37, who had lived in Konstanz for some time.
178 MIGRANTS RESCUED FROM TRAILER IN MEXICO
Mexican officials on Sunday were attempting to return almost 200 Central American migrants to their home countries after they escaped an abandoned trailer.
The migrants were found Sat- urday in a trailer in Veracruz state, about 400 miles from the U. S. border, Mexico's National Institute of Migration said. The rescue came a week after 10 undocumented immigrants died in a packed, overheated trailer in San Antonio, Texas.
Officials told AFP news service the 178 occupants of the truck Saturday apparently realized they had been abandoned by the traffickers and a few escaped, seeking help from local residents who provided food and water.
4 ARRESTED IN AUSTRALIA FOR PLOT TO BLOW UP PLANE
Police foiled a plot to blow up a plane after raiding homes in Sydney on Saturday and arresting four men.
“I can report last night that there has been a major joint counterterrorism operation to disrupt a terrorist plot to bring down an airplane,” Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told reporters on Sunday. “The operation is continuing.”
Details were sketchy on the timing and location of the attack, according to Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin, though he said the plot was believed to involve use of an improvised device.
