FALL INTO VOLCANIC CRATER KILLS PARENTS, SON

-

An Italian couple died trying to rescue their 11-year-old son after he fell into a volcanic crater in Italy on Tuesday, according to local reports.

The boy reportedly walked into a prohibited area at the Solfatara Crater in Pozzuoli Italy, and may have fallen into the crater after fainting from the fumes, the ANSA news agency reported.

The mother and father reportedly rushed to their son’s aid and were sucked into the crater, where they perished alongside their son, Naples police told CNN.

According to CNN, the area around the crater is known for a type of quicksand, and the ground is extremely unstable.

The couple's 7-year-old child survived and was brought to a bar at the entrance of the crater following the incident, ANSA reported.
