FALL INTO VOLCANIC CRATER KILLS PAR­ENTS, SON

An Ital­ian cou­ple died try­ing to res­cue their 11-year-old son af­ter he fell into a volcanic crater in Italy on Tues­day, ac­cord­ing to lo­cal re­ports.

The boy re­port­edly walked into a pro­hib­ited area at the Sol­fa­tara Crater in Poz­zuoli Italy, and may have fallen into the crater af­ter faint­ing from the fumes, the ANSA news agency re­ported.

The mother and fa­ther re­port­edly rushed to their son’s aid and were sucked into the crater, where they per­ished along­side their son, Naples po­lice told CNN.

Ac­cord­ing to CNN, the area around the crater is known for a type of quick­sand, and the ground is ex­tremely un­sta­ble.

The cou­ple's 7-year-old child sur­vived and was brought to a bar at the en­trance of the crater fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent, ANSA re­ported.
