Parking in Vegas more pricey, too

- – Dawn Gilbertson

MGM Resorts has raised its parking fees again.

The chain of 12 casino hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, from Mandalay Bay on the south end to Circus Circus on the north, raised valet and self-parking rates this week.

The increase is the second in as many years for the chain, which started a trend when it began charging guests and visitors to park in 2016. Hefty parking fees have long been charged by big-city hotels, but free parking, including valet service, was the norm in Las Vegas until then.

Overnight valet parking at MGM’s luxury hotels — Bellagio, Aria and Vdara — is now $30 a night, up from $25. Valet parking at those hotels formerly started at $18 a night, so the fee has gone up 67% in two years.

The valet rate for mid-priced hotels including MGM Grand, Mirage and Mandalay Bay is now $24 for overnight guests, up from $20. Self-parking for overnight guests went from $12 to $15 a day.

Parking fees vary by hotel, the type of parking and how many hours your car is there. Hotel guests pay the fee just once per 24 hours regardless of how many MGM properties they visit. For example, if you pay for self-parking at New York-New York, you get self-parking at any MGM hotel during that period. Ditto for valet parking.

In addition to parking fees, Las Vegas travelers must budget for hefty resort fees. Most major hotels charge at least $25 a night plus tax. Bellagio’s resort fee is $44 per night, including taxes.
