Former Christie allies: Bridge realignment didn’t break law
Two associates of former New Jersey governor Chris Christie argued before a federal appeals court Tuesday in Philadelphia to have their convictions overturned in the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal in 2013.
Attorneys for Bill Baroni and Bridget Kelly acknowledged that even if the motivation for realigning the lanes at the bridge was to punish the mayor of Fort Lee, N.J., for not endorsing Christie, that wasn’t a crime under federal law.
