GOP must support 9/11 first responders

-

When discussing an increase of $7 billion in medical benefits to 9/11 first responders, at least one Republican lawmaker said Congress must consider its impact on the $22 trillion national debt. Republicans increased the debt through cuts for the wealthy in their new tax plan, but now, they point to this debt as a means to ration tax dollars. It should be clear to most Americans that the Republican Party doesn’t care about those who sacrificed their health for other Americans. This begs the question about the duty to one’s country. Why would anyone fight in a dubious war overseas, a war that lines the pockets of defense contractors, while family members here die because of lack of health care coverage? The real threat to average Americans isn’t a terrorist in Iran; it’s the Republican Party at home. George Magakis, Jr.

Former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart urged Congress on Tuesday to reauthorize 9/11 first responder benefits.

Sadly, Congress needs to be reminded. Rep. Jerrod Nadler, D-N.Y., called for the reauthorization, yet he complains about the president instead of working on the issues.

Trump and Congress gave the top 1% a $1.5 trillion tax cut. Congress must not gift tax revenue to special interests. All Americans can support this, regardless of political affiliation.
