What readers want to hear at the first Democratic debates
TWITTER @USATODAYOPINION
I want to see candidates discuss income inequality, equal rights, reproductive freedom, college loan plans, real wages, climate change and, most important, Medicare for All!
@kjs3mom2
I’m looking for the debates to start weeding out all of these unnecessary candidates who are just trying to land a Cabinet position, a book deal or a commentator job.
@Mikeytbh
I want somebody with the moxie to stand up to President Donald Trump, the brains to understand the complexities of leadership, and the ability to articulate both without being thrown off track by Trump’s lying.
@ljanem
Many have great domestic plans that we have heard promised for years. Time will tell if any president ever will repair decades of mess at home.
@Mccalvert1
I want to hear everyone say: First, regardless of the outcome, I’ll work to elect the Democratic nominee; second, if elected, I’ll support legislation that reestablishes checks and balances on the executive branch. Also I wouldn’t mind seeing about 15 people drop out.
@BCross52
As an independent, I want to hear how the candidates will address canceling student debt if Democrats win the White House but not both chambers of Congress.
@reubenDagwood
I am hoping that at least 15 do the right thing and drop out and work on Senate races to ensure the retirement of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. I expect Sen. Elizabeth Warren, DMass., will shine.

The problem with America’s presidential election is that the campaign season is way too long! Americans are worn out before the actual election.
Sal Maggiore
I want to hear how they plan on paying for their ideas, other than raising taxes.
Norman Hopkins
No one can get the Democratic National Committee nomination with just “I hate Trump” rhetoric.
If that’s all he or she spews, the candidate will lose.
