Notes on amounts in bold
Brent Venables, Clemson: Includes $ 200,0000 life insurance premium payment to be made by the university no later than 15 days after the College Football Playoff championship game, Jan. 13, 2020. The university is entitled to reimbursement of the payment, plus interest, from policy’s death benefits.
Steve Sarkisian, Alabama: Also received a $ 500,000 loan that is scheduled to be forgiven in two equal portions. First would be forgiven if he remains offensive coordinator as of the Letter of Intent signing date in February 2021. Then – depending on contract’s expiration date – second would be forgiven if he remains offensive coordinator as of last game of the 2021 season or as of the Letter of Intent signing date in February 2022.
Don Brown, Michigan: Includes $ 500,000 retention payment payable April 1, 2019.
Jim Chaney, Tennessee: Does not include $ 500,000 that school agreed to pay Georgia to cover the buyout Chaney owed.
Josh Gattis, Michigan: Includes $ 200,000 signing bonus.
Phil Snow, Baylor, and Sonny Cumbie, Texas Christian: Because schools are private, total pay for is from schools’ most recently available federal tax returns. Those documents provide compensation for 2017 calendar year based on all income paid by the schools or support organizations, including benefits, perks and performance bonuses. Kendal Briles, Florida State: Does not include $ 900,000 that school agreed to pay Houston to cover buyout that Briles owed. Does include $ 20,000 signing bonus. Bud Foster, Virginia Tech: Includes retention payments of $ 150,000 that became payable June 30 and Dec. 1.
