Elliott tests positive for coronavirus

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has tested positive for COVID- 19 but is “feeling good,” his agent confirmed to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

At least two Cowboys players and four Texans players have tested positive for coronavirus, a person with knowledge of the results told USA TODAY Sports’ Mike Jones on Monday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to reveal the medical information.

Elliott is one of the few NFL players known to have contracted COVID- 19, joining Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller and Rams center Brian Allen. Saints coach Sean Payton revealed in March that he had tested positive for coronavirus.

NFL chief medical officer Allen Sills said in May that the league was still working to develop processes for handling instances of the virus in players, coaches and staff. “We fully well expect that we will have positive cases that arise,” Sills said. “Because we think that this disease will remain endemic in society, it shouldn’t be a surprise that new positive cases arise. Our challenge is to identify them as quickly as possible and prevent spread to any other participants. We’re working very diligently on that, and we’ll have some detailed plans at a later time.”

In a statement, the Texans said: “In accordance with both federal and local privacy laws, the Houston Texans are unable to comment on the personal health of our players and staff. We are following all CDC, local and NFL guidelines to ensure members of our organization stay safe while maintaining limited facility access.”

Only those rehabbing injuries have been granted access to facilities.

Elliott, 24, has been selected to the Pro Bowl three out of four seasons and has the best career rushing yards per game average ( 96.5) of any active player.
