Up to parents, not Trump, when schools open

-

LETTERS LETTERS@ USATODAY. COM

President Donald Trump’s demand that schools reopen in the fall will have little impact on the majority of parents. They will decide for themselves when it is safe for their children to return. Ardent Trump supporters are being asked to make a decision: Are you willing to risk the life of your child to demonstrate your faith in him?

It is not only Democrats but Republicans who are cautious about reopening schools. Their motives are to protect the health of the children. Reopening the economy too soon in many states led to surges in infection.

President Donald Trump is pushing to reopen for political reasons. He thinks it will help his campaign. He has no respect for states’ or local rights, which is the hallmark of conservative values.
