Opposing view: Our convention will be upbeat, forward- looking

- Ronna McDaniel Ronna McDaniel is chairwoman of the Republican National Committee.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s acceptance speech to the Democratic National Convention, a speech he spent nearly 50 years waiting to give, marked an unmemorable ending to an overscripted and underwhelming convention.

It’s no surprise TV ratings were down from four years ago. The American people weren’t buying what the Democrats were selling.

From hearing Hollywood celebrities talk down to Middle America to having Bill Clinton lecture us on how to behave in the Oval Office ( really), apart from the tone deafness and the angriness that permeated the airwaves night after night, what stood out most isn’t what Democrats said at their convention, but what they didn’t say.

The DNC devoted a lot of segments to speakers talking about the fact that they really, really despise Donald Trump and the people who support him. However, we heard hardly anything about the policies Joe Biden is proposing for our country, much less why Americans should go out and vote for them.

Democrats tried hard to make the case that Joe Biden is a really good and decent guy, but voters should ask themselves the question — what’s so decent about a record of supporting trade practices that force jobs to flee our country or picking a running mate who believes abortion should be allowed with almost no restrictions in the ninth month of pregnancy?

Democrats couldn’t even muster the courage to call out even once at their convention the looting and violence that continue to inflict chaos and mayhem in city after city, night after night. The Democrats’ playbook is clear. They are going to try to hide the fact that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are running on what could well be the furthest- left major- party platform in history, and hope that people don’t notice. It’s not going to work. Sooner or later, Joe Biden is going to be held accountable for his extreme agenda, whether it’s his plan to impose almost $ 4 trillion in tax hikes over the next decade or his pledge to end fossil fuel use, which would cause energy prices to skyrocket.

Fortunately Americans have another choice in this election, one they will be able to hear about for themselves when the Republican National Convention kicks off on Monday night.

Instead of the depressing, doomand- gloom convention Democrats staged, President Trump and Republicans are going to cast an aspirational, forward- looking vision of America.

Our convention is going to celebrate everything that makes America the greatest country on earth and everything we can achieve in the future.

We’re eager to draw the contrast between the Democrats’ agenda, and the one President Trump and Republicans are fighting for. I hope every American takes the time to tune in.
