Hartford Yard Goats owner Josh Solomon told WNPR radio that the team might never play in Dunkin’ Donuts Park if it is not ready for the start of the 2017 season. Solomon told city officials Hartford has six months to get the ballpark in order before he has the option of terminating his agreement and begin looking for another venue to host the Class AA Eastern League team. Solomon said in a statement to News 8 in Hartford that he and his team are “committed to the city ... (but) simply cannot continue to exist without a home park in 2017.” The Yard Goats have had to play home games this season in other cities.

The Class A California League is known for its highoctane hitting, but San Jose utility man Miguel Gomez has yet to catch on. He was among the hottest hitters in the minors when playing for Augusta (Ga.) of the Class A South Atlantic League. He hit .371 in that league this season, including .399 in June and July before he was bumped up to the Cal League on July 17. He was hitting .246, however, in 14 games since the promotion.

Lynchburg (Va.) catcher Francisco Mejia’s minor leaguebest hitting streak is at 42 games after a 1-for-4 effort at WinstonSalem (N.C.) on July 30. Mejia’s streak began in May while he was playing for Lake County (Ohio) of the Class A Midwest League. He joined the Hillcats on June 29 and hit safely in 18 games, batting .329 (25-for-76). Overall, he is hitting a combined .344 at both levels and .387 (65-for-168) during the streak. Meija’s streak is the longest in the minors since James McOwen’s 45-gamer in 2009 while he played in the Cal League.

The Brevard County Manatees of the Class A Florida State League will move to Kissimmee next season. The club announced the finalists for the team’s new name last week: the Florida Dragonflies, Florida Fire Frogs, Florida Mud Kickers, Florida Rodeo Clowns, Florida Sorcerers and Florida Toucans.
