There was an unusual vibe around the Raiders as they reported for training camp, and it had nothing to do with persistent stories about a potential move to Las Vegas.

No, it was about expectations, something there haven’t been a lot of for a franchise that is 63-145 with 10 double-digit losing seasons since losing in the Super Bowl after the 2002 regular season.

Said head coach Jack Del Rio, “Winning the division is our goal, and we’re certainly not going to back away from anything like that. But how do you accomplish your goals? You put in the work. There’s no shortcut to it.”

Echoing Del Rio’s words, DELB Khalil Mack said, “It’s all about the mind-set. We have the talent. I feel like the work we put in out there is going to give us the confidence when the season hits to go out and win games consistently. That’s what we look forward to doing.” Rookie watch: More good news as camp opened: Karl Joseph worked with the first team at strong safety. He didn’t practice in the offseason as he recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament at West Virginia that limited him to five games in 2015. Said Del Rio, “He’s ready to roll.”

Noteworthy: After signing a two-year contract as an unrestricted free agent (Bengals), 10-year veteran S Reggie Nelson wasn’t with the team during offseason work. Saying he was dealing with issues, Nelson reported to camp and was alongside Joseph with the first unit. ... At an alumni gathering Friday night, owner

Mark Davis announced a fouryear contract extension for general manager Reggie McKenzie. ... Speaking of Raiders alumni, hip surgery will keep former coach John Madden from making the trip to Canton, Ohio, for QB Ken Stabler’s enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but Madden taped his presentation. WR Fred Biletnikoff will unveil the bust with members of Sta- bler’s family. Stabler died July 8, 2015.
