Denver Broncos

-

Early in training camp is too soon to reach conclusions about the summer-long hype about the Broncos’ battle at quarterback, but Mark Sanchez is trying to stake his claim to the job.

Still, Sanchez has been sharp in an offense he started learning in March, and teammates have been impressed with his command.

“He definitely has that leadership factor,” RB C.J. Anderson said. “The way he controls the huddle with me and Emmanuel ( Sanders) and D.T. (Demaryius

Thomas), we’re laughing and joking, and (he says), ‘Hey! It’s time to get to work.’

“He shuts us up like 18 (Peyton Manning) used to do.”

Rookie watch: DE Adam Gotsis was limited to individual drills as he continued his comeback from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered Oct. 31 while at Georgia Tech. RB Devontae

Booker remained at the team facility after minicamp rehabbing from a torn meniscus in his knee and was able to be on the field for the first practice of camp.

Noteworthy: OLB DeMarcus Ware started camp on the active/ non-football injury list. He missed five games in 2015 with an injured back and was expected to be on a snap count during the season. Last year’s No. 1 pick, Shane Ray, is ready to blossom. Said Ware of Ray, “You can see how much he’s matured. You can see all the way from him teaching other guys what to do.”
