There’s trash talk, for sure. But the respect between perhaps the Redskins’ two biggest names is apparent.

When WR DeSean Jackson faces CB Josh Norman, everyone perks up and watches. Both have had their moments, making plays on the other. And both say the matchup makes them better.

“That’s just the competition that drives us to both be elite at our level and what we do,” said Norman, who compared Jackson to the Flash. “Because he’s a special talent. He has rare blazing speed, and his routes he’s getting better at when he’s coming back to the ball, his slants and stuff.”

Jackson said Norman’s presence would help him prepare to face the league’s top corners.

“It’s just work,” he said. “We’re here to get better, make each other better. That’s what both guys are out there doing, just trying to help each other get better and strive for greatness.”

Rookie watch: First-round WR Josh Doctson opened camp on the PUP list because of a strained Achilles tendon suffered in rookie minicamp. He has been catching passes on the side during practice. ... Fifth-round choice DE

Matt Ioannidis is being given a chance to win a role as the nose tackle. He’s up to 308 pounds and looked strong in early work.

Noteworthy: Newly acquired TE Vernon Davis’ role is still being defined, but he said one of those roles was serving as a mentor to last season’s breakout star, TE Jordan Reed. ... Trent Mur

phy has been impressive at defensive end, showing speed and agility despite having gained 30 pounds for his new position. That was on display when the converted linebacker intercepted a Kirk

Cousins screen pass and raced 40 yards for a touchdown.
