Los Angeles Rams

-

Anticipating a spike in enthusiasm about the team’s return to Los Angeles, coach Jeff Fisher gathered his players together before the first practice and warned them about coming out too fast.

“When the atmosphere is the way it was, the fans and the support — there’s a tendency to go a little bit quicker earlier in practice than you should,” Fisher told reporters after the team’s first

training camp session as the Los Angeles Rams since 1994. “And I just encouraged them to make sure they got warmed up and got to full speed so we didn’t have any issues.”

The excitement was palpable during a Day 1 practice that saw 10,000 fans at the UC Irvine training complex. Rookie watch: QB Jared Goff, the No. 1 overall pick, started camp as the backup to Case

Keenum. But it’s possible Goff could push for a starting job at some point. Fisher said that Goff looked much more comfortable in the offense than he did in organized team activities but added that he was just taking small steps.

Noteworthy: The Nick Foles era officially ended after one season when the team granted the veteran quarterback’s request for a release. Foles, 27, started 11 games with the Rams last season but was benched in favor of Keenum.. ... RB Tre Mason, arrested when police officers discovered marijuana in his car in March, was placed on the reserve/did not report list after failing to show for training camp. “It was our only option,” Fisher said. “I haven’t personally spoken with Tre since the season ended.” ... The Rams placed the franchise tag on CB

Trumaine Johnson after failing to reach an agreement on a longterm deal.
