Tanaka pitched 72⁄ scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and no walks as the Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels on 3 Aug. 19. It was the third consecutive start in which Tanaka recorded at least eight strikeouts and no walks, the ninth such streak in major league history — all since 2013 and third this year, joining the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw and the Angels’ Matt Shoemaker. Tanaka has not walked a batter since July 27, when he issued back-to-back walks against the Houston Astros in the second inning. That is a span of 292⁄ innings and 123 batters. 3
