Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are taking a chance on another underachieving high draft choice at wide receiver. Philadelphia acquired WR
Dorial Green-Beckham from the Tennessee Titans in a trade for reserve OL Dennis Kelly. Green-Beckham was a secondround draft choice in 2015, and at 6-5, 237, he provides a huge target for QB Sam Bradford.
But Green-Beckham was jettisoned by the Titans after catching 32 passes for 549 yards and a touchdown as a rookie. He had been kicked off his college team at Missouri and arrested for marijuana-related incidents. Eagles vice president Howie
Roseman said Green-Beckham had a rare skill set but acknowledged he needed to be more consistent. That’s pretty much the book on the Eagles’ disappointing young wideouts — 2015 firstround pick Nelson Agholor and 2014 third-rounder Josh Huff.
Green-Beckham was targeted twice in Thursday’s win but did not record a catch.
Rookie watch: The most impressive wide receiver in camp has been undrafted free agent
Paul Turner. In two preseason games, he has caught nine passes for 78 yards, including a spectacular one-handed catch Thursday. … Seventh-round LB Joe Walk
er, who had played himself into a position as the likely top backup to MLB Jordan Hicks, suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Noteworthy: Caleb Sturgis, battling Cody Parkey for the kicker job, suffered a concussion during warmups when he was hit in the head by an errant punt. He was cleared Monday. Parkey, who seemed to have fallen behind in the competition, made his only field goal attempt, a 40-yarder, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
