Los Angeles Rams

-

Los Angeles fans got their first look at RB Todd Gurley, and it was worth the wait. Gurley scored a touchdown on the opening drive Saturday while running for 20 yards on four carries in a cameo debut for one series.

Coach Jeff Fisher had rested Gurley in the preseason opener. Backups Benjamin Cunning

ham and Malcolm Brown combined to rush for 106 yards on 16 carries over the final three quarters of the win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The arrest-related absence of primary backup Tre Mason has opened the door for Cunningham and Brown to see more playing time. But the Rams know the success of their running game will revolve around Gurley.

“You can see Todd’s value,” Fisher said after the win. “I’m glad we got Todd in for that series.”

Rookie watch: First overall pick Jared Goff fumbled twice, was sacked two times and failed to get the Rams into scoring position until the opening drive of the fourth quarter. He connected with Brown on a 10-yard touchdown that ended up being the gamewinning score. Goff was 8-for-12 for 82 yards. … WR Nelson

Spruce is expected to miss a week or two with a sprained knee. Spruce was a major factor in the fourth-quarter comeback win against the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason opener.

Noteworthy: QB Case Keenum has done his part to hold off Goff. Keenum completed 10 of 12 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown while engineering two scoring drives over the first two games. … MLB Alec Ogletree, coming back from a broken leg, is learning a new position. Fisher said the former outside linebacker had looked good in trying to fill the shoes of James Laurinaitis. … CB Lemarcus Joyner was ejected late in the first half after throwing a punch.
