Gavin tops in ERA, WHIP in Arizona League

Grant Gavin, the Kansas City Royals’ 29th-round pick in the June draft, has made quick work of the rookie-level Arizona League. Gavin, 21, was 3-1 through 11 appearances (two starts) with a league-leading 1.08 ERA in 412⁄3 innings. He also had a leagueleading 0.86 WHIP and was second in lowest batting average against (.197). Grant also had the second-lowest walks per nine innings (0.81) and the second-fewest baserunners per nine innings (6.21).
