PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

-

Albert Pujols, Angels

There has been nothing uplifting about the Angels’ season, their worst in manager Mike Scioscia’s 17-year tenure. But Pujols, the team’s first baseman and designated hitter, is delivering highlights on an individual basis. Pujols smacked the 600th double of his storied career last week. Pujols, who is No. 9 on the all-time home run list, is the third player to record 600 doubles and 575 home runs, joining Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds. “Every time Albert does something, it’s great to hear what the footnote is,” Scioscia said. “I think that says it all, with the select company that he’s in with the doubles and the home runs.”
