Stephenson, 23, made his major league debut in 2016 but struggled to com- mand his fastball and had a 6.08 ERA in 37 innings. His plus fastball/curveball combination has a mid-rotation upside, but 4.6 walks per nine innings might push him to relief. He walked 4.2 in the minor leagues, striking out 9.3 per nine. With at least two rotation spots up for grabs and bullpen spots available, Stephenson has a good opportunity to crack a spot on the roster if he can harness his ability. He’ll get that chance in either Class AAA or the majors.
