At 43, Marlins outfielder Ichi

ro Suzuki is the oldest position player in the major leagues and trails only Braves pitcher Bartolo Colon among all players.

But as Ichiro prepared for his 17th major league season (he also played nine seasons in Japan), he said retirement wasn’t on his mind. He says he plans to play until he’s 50.

Asked by the Miami Herald what he’ll do when he finally does stop playing, his answer was telling. “I think I’ll just die,” he said.

Third baseman Martin

Prado opened the season on the disabled list because of a Grade 1 right hamstring strain suffered during the World Baseball Classic. There’s a chance Prado could be ready to play as soon as April 11, in the Marlins’ home opener against the Braves. Derek Dietrich was expected to play third base in Prado’s absence.
