Grossman emerged as the primary designated hitter coming out of spring training despite a strong Grapefruit League showing by resurgent Byung Ho Park.

Park, who was removed from the 40-man roster two weeks before the start of camp, hit .353 with six home runs in 51 at-bats in spring training. After starring in the Korean Baseball Organization, Park had a tough time adjusting to the major leagues last season, hitting .191/.275/.409 with 12 homers in 62 games.

Working against Park was his inability to add positional flexibility. The Twins began the season with a three-man bench.

“We asked Park at the beginning of the spring to compete and show us that his second time was going to be better. It was, by leaps and bounds,” manager Paul Mol
